Use floor wax to revitalize and deep clean worn floors. Don t overwax a wood floor. There is a lot of dirt embedded in the bevelled edges of our hardwood. Cleaning hardwood floors is generally easy but cleaning in the grooves is a little more complicated because of the small spaces involved.

And clean the small area with a damp not wet rag to avoid having to mop the entire floor. The problem is magnified when the boards were not tightly laid in the first place. Water logged wood will first swell then shrink as it dries out. Your best bet for removing this debris is by using a powerful vacuum.

Although wood floors are beautiful and durable dirt dust and debris does collect in the grooves between the planks. Always apply floor wax to go with the grain of the wood. We bought a new house that has hardwood flooring in the foyer and kitchen. If you have a heavy duty wet dry canister shop vac with attachments use it to suck up the dust and dirt that settles into those gaps.

You will need to find something narrow enough to go between the boards to loosen the dirt and then use a vacuum with crevice tool attached to suck it out. The problem is there is a 1 8 inch gap between the floorboards. If you choose to use a vacuum do not use anything other than a qualified hardwood floor vacuum regularly spot clean your floors instead of mopping entire sections. We are in the house 4 months and noticed wide gaps between the planks.

If you spill something wet quickly soak it up with a rag sponge paper towel etc. Flat mops can t get at the dirt wedged between the wood. Some i can even put a dime nickel and quarter down the gaps. Cleaning by hand will allow you to reach between the cracks more easily.
